The Stock Market

Today the Dow Jones had one of the wildest day in trading, when the market fell down nearly a 1,000 points during a half an hour period of the trading day because of Greece's debt problems could cause problems for the world economy. The big down turn of the market came just 90 minutes before the closing bell, but it managed to recover at the end with loss at 300 points. There were reports saying the sudden drop was caused by one trader who mistyped an order to sell a big block of stock. Over a 3 day period the Dow has already dropped over 630 points with all the worries about the financial crisis in Greece. Equity strategist Peter Boockvar says, the market is realizing that Greece is going through a depression over the next couple of years, and Europe is a major trading partner with the United States and that could threaten the whole global outlook.

Computer trading also caused some problems with market going into this tailspin. Programs kick into gear when the loss hits a specific level and traders use these programs to limit their losses. At the end of closing today all major stock exchanges were holding a conference call with the Securities and Exchange Commission to explain what happened. The Nasdaq issued a statement saying that any trades during the final 20 minutes of the trading session has been canceled.

Jillian Michaels Criticized

Jillian Michaels the trainer on NBC's reality tv show "The Biggest Loser" has been getting a lot of feedback on some comments she made during a interview for Womens Health Magazine. With interview she made comments that she was going to adopt a baby rather giving birth to her because she could not do something like that to body. She over came childhood obesity to become one of the most famous fitness gurus today.

Michaels comments drew some attention because how it might affect other women on geting pregnant. reports indicate that her comments will not have spike in adoptions or a decrease in pregnancies rates.Some experts are wondering how her comments will be recieved since she is a very high profiled fitness person.

Dr. Leslie Seppinni, a Los Angeles-based family therapist and clinical psychologist states that Jilliam Michaels is teaching women about self -esteem and body image. Dr. Seppinni goes on saying that if she (Michaels)truly feels then she should go seek counseling herself before coaching other people on their body image.


This isn't the first time that Michaels has sparked some controversy. In October with a interview with Health Magazine she angered the fans of the popular daytime talk show Opra Winfrey Show,when she made comments that Opra was misinformed about soy milk being good for her when she has a thyroid condition.

Another Upset In NCAA tournament

In what seems to be one of the most wildest NCAA Men's basketball tournaments in recent history Butler University who is a number 5 seed in the west region of the tournament beat the top seed in that region Syracuse University 63-59 to advance to the west regional finals against the number 2 seed Kansas State Univeristy who had advoid being upset themselves against Xavier University in double overtime 101-96. In a game that was suppose to be sure win for Syracuse, Butler came up big playing a stout defense that forced 18 turnovers and held them to 43% shooting from the field. at the same Butler used a balaced scoring attack to thwart the vaunted Syracuse 2-3 zone defense that has caused a problems for teams over the whole entire season.

USA VS. CANADA

On Sunday February 28 on the last day of the 2010 Olympic games in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Team USA and Team Canada played for the gold medal in mens hockey. Canada won 3-2 in overtime which turned out to be the best played hockey games in the Olympics since the 1980 Miracle On Ice team. In a high paced defensive early first period Canada struck first at the 12:50 mark when Jonathan Toews cashed in on a USA turnover after the Canadians lost a face off in the Americans zone of the ice. Then with 7:13 gone in the second period Team Canada scored again when Corey Perry deflected a pass from Ryan Getzlaf and Duncan Keith into the net to make the score 2-0. With the home country going crazy the Americans finally got on the board with 12:44 gone in the same period Ryan Kesler who plays for Vancouver during the NHL season quiets down the frenzied Canadian crowd with the assist from Patrick Kane to make it a one goal game at 2-1 heading into the third and final period. In the third period both goaltenders Ryan Miller for the Americans and Roberto Luongo were both stellar between the pipes with each of them stopping numerous scoring chances. With time ticking away for the Americans they pulled the goaltender with over a minute left in favor for an extra attacker. With the Canadian sensing that the gold medal was theirs they came to a screeching quiet when Zach Parise in mad scramble in front of the Canadian net slams home the game tying goal with under 25 seconds left. With overtime looming both teams were trying to muster up any type of momentum but still with both goaltenders coming up with big stops. With 7:40 gone Sidney Crosby got open to receive a pass from Jarome Iginla and slaps it pass Miller for the game winner and sending the Canadian crowd crazy because they had won that elusive gold medal on their home soil.

Basketball Player Suspended

The National Asscociation Intercollgeiate Activities (NAIA) has Suspended Jamestown College player Hans Hoeg for undetermined amount of time for his ejection in last thursdays game against Valley City State for a flagrant foul he was assesed late in the game.I personally witnessed the game and the foul that was in question and I have to agree with Jamestown College head coach Jeff Trambuer that the flagrant foul and the ejection were both unnecessary and the player should have been allowed to stay in the game and not get the suspension.
